Pioneers rolls at home; Blue Sky wins two at tourney

Across the Hi-Line, the inaugural season of girls basketball as a winter sport got underway this past weekend as teams from District 2B, 9C and 10C saw plenty of action.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters fell to the top-ranked Wolf Point Wolves on Friday night, 49-24. The Beeters were paced by Whitney Lybeck's 8 points and Brittany Buhmann added five points in the loss. The Wolves were led to victory by Lori Jo Neubauer's game high 21 points.

On Saturday night the Beeters rebounded to pick up a home victory over District 1B Cut Bank, 39-37. The Beeters got 12 points apiece from Lybeck and Buhmann in the victory. The Beeters (1-2) will face Cascade at home on Saturday night.

On Thursday at the Big Sandy tournament, the KG Lady KouGars lost to Winifred 44-31 and the Turner Tornadoes also dropped a non-conference contest to Judith Gap 46-41.

In other tourney action, the host Big Sandy Pioneers routing of Saco 90-50 on Friday night. The Pioneers were led by Sheena Darlington's game high 29 points. Ashley Goodian and Lindsey Danreuther added 22 points a piece and Linda Givens chipped in 12.

On Saturday, the Pioneers continued their winning ways by defeating Winifred 72-40. The Pioneers were led by Darlington's 24 points. Goodian had 18 and Givens added 15 points in the romp. Danreuther also chipped in with 12 points. The Pioneers will now travel to Box Elder on Thursday night and host Sunburst and Blue Sky Friday and Saturday.

Also on Saturday, KG was downed by Judith Gap 54-38. The KouGars were paced by Cady Arifin's 13 points. KG will visit J-I on Tuesday. They will also host the Box Elder Bears on Saturday night.

The final game of the tournament saw Turner fall to the Highwood Mountaineers 45-37. The Tornadoes were led in the loss by Kelsey Klindworth's game high 23 points. Up next for Turner will be a home contest on Friday against Dodson. They will also travel to Whitewater on Saturday.

The Blue Sky Eagles also picked up a pair of victories at the Centerville tournament over Winnett and Centerville.

On Friday night, the Eagles downed Winnett 43-25. The Eagles were led by Lindsay Anderson's 13 points in the win. On Saturday, the Eagles defeated the host Miners 50-42. Jessica Patrick scored a game high 18 points and Kila Warren added 10. The Eagles will host the Geraldine Tigers on Friday night and then travel to conference foe Big Sandy on Saturday.

The Chester Coyotes dropped a pair of games to Shelby. On Thursday, Shelby defeated Chester 77-37. The Coyotes got 18 points from Keyla Wendland. Shelby was led by Lisa Hasquet's 24 points. On Saturday, Shelby again defeated Chester 73-30. Alisha Fossen's seven points and 10 rebounds led Chester.

Also from District 10C, the J-I Rams dropped a pair of non-conference contests at the Centerville tournament. On Friday night, the Rams were drubbed by the host Miner 69-14. On Saturday the Rams also fell to Winnett 54-34. The Rams got 14 points by Megan Herdina in the losing effort.
