Pony swimmers shake off long trip for a solid showing

The Havre High swim team shook off a rough start that included a neverending, cramped bus trip that had them 45 minutes late, and some general meet disorganization to have a solid showing at the Flathead Invitational swim meet at the Summit Athletic Club in Kalispell on Saturday.

The Havre boys placed second in the meet while the girls finished fourth. The host team, Kalispell, easily won both team titles.

"The kids swam really well considering the mess we had that morning," said head coach Chris Inman.

The Ponies had only one first place finish which came in the boys 200 meter freestyle relay. The team of Ryan Gilbreath, Mario Pizzini, Scott Robinson and Joey Howland put together a solid time of 1:55.59 to finish four seconds ahead of Great Falls High.

Despite just the one top finish, both the boys and girls teams were able to score solid points placing several swimmers in the top six.

The Ponies will be at home this weekend as they host their own meet at the city pool on Saturday.
