JOSEPH K. HOFER, Obituary

HARLEM Joseph K. Hofer Sr., 84, senior pastor of the North Harlem Hutterian Brethren Church in Harlem, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at the North Harlem Colony on Thursday at 1 p.m. with interment to follow in the North Harlem Colony cemetery.

Joseph was born in Hutchinson County in South Dakota to Joshua and Elizabeth Hofer on Oct. 18, 1918. He was raised and educated in Menno, S.D. He immigrated to Stirling, Alberta, Canada, in 1930.

Joseph married Katie Stahl on July 4, 1940. In 1947 they moved to Danvers and in 1963 they moved to Harlem.

Joseph was elected minister in November 1962 and was faithful to that calling. His warmth and hospitality touched many lives and he will be lovingly remembered by family and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katie, two sons, five grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters and his parents.

Survivors include: sons, Joe (Katie) Hofer Jr., Eli (Marie) Hofer and Ben (Rachel) Hofer, all of Harlem, Joshua Hofer of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and David (Annie) Hofer of Huntley; daughters, Mary (Pete) Hofer and Barbara Hofer, both of Harlem, and Elizabeth (Paul) Walter of Ballantine; sisters, Katie (Paul) Stahl of Gildford, Elizabeth Hofer and Mary (Peter) Hofer of Stirling, Alberta, Canada, and Rebecca Stahl of Lewistown; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
