Lights win in Canada

The Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team opened the new year much the same way it ended it - with a victory. The Lights won their second straight game defeating the Northern Alberta Technology Insitute, 80-73, Thursday night in the Medicine Hat College Invitational.

The Lights got 18 points each from the Morinia brothers and had two other players score in double figures as held off a pesky NAIT team that was previously undefeated.

Besides the Morinias, junior guard Travis Moran appears to have shaken off his recent shooting in scoring 17 points including four three-pointers in the victory. Brian McGowen had a solid game scoring 11 points in the win.

With the win, Northern snapped NAIT's 21-game winning streak while improving its record to 11-5 on the season.

NAIT got 22 points from Loren Balon and 15 points and 11 rebounds from Leif Puffer in the loss.

The Lights will face another solid team tonight in the tournament when they take on the Lethbridge Community College Kodiaks.
