Big Sandy, Blue Sky pace district 9C race

With the Holiday season over, all of the area Hi-Line girls high school basketball teams returned to action this weekend.

Thursday night in Harlem, the Glasgow Scotties routed the Harlem Lady Wildcats 60-44. Harlem led 6-5 at the end of the first quarter, but the Scotties used a 24-11 second quarter run to pull away for good. The Wildcats were led by Megan Walls' 13 points and Leslie Horn added 8.

In Chester, the host Coyotes trounced the KG KouGars 61-30. The Coyotes outscored the KouGars 22-8 in the second period which gave them an almost insurmountable 31-10 halftime lead.

The Coyotes were led by Amanda Schlepp's game-high 16 points. Brianne Wolf and Mary Devries added nine points each. The KouGars got 15 points from Emily Stewart and nine from Cady Arifin.

On Friday night, the Chinook Sugarbeeters also fell to the Glasgow Scotties 40-27. The Scotties led 21-17 at the half and used an 11-5 advantage in the fourth quarter to secure the win. The Beeters got 14 points from Jennifer Baird in the losing cause. After its loss to Havre on Saturday night, Chinook's record drops to 2-6. The Beeters visit the Poplar Indians on Friday night and host Fort Benton on Saturday.

Harlem also dropped a District 2B contest on Friday night, falling to the Plentywood Wildcats 62-45 in Harlem. Harlem got eight points from Olivia Mann and seven from Megan Walls in the loss.

In District 9C action on Friday, the Big Sandy Pioneers continued to roll as they hammered Rocky Boy 82-26 in Big Sandy. The Pioneers got 23 points from Sheena Darlington while Lindsay Danreuther added 17. Ashley Goodian chipped in with 14 in the win. The Stars were paced by Marty Stiffarm's eight points.

In Rudyard, the Blue Sky Eagles picked up a key district win over the Box Elder Lady Bears 58-54. The Eagles grabbed a 20-11 lead after the first quarter. The Bears battled back, but could not overcome the early deficit. The Eagles got 26 points from Jessica Patrick and 16 from Kaila Warren in the win. Brandy Lawrence led the way for the Bears with a game-high 27 points while Tami Infante added 16 points.

In District 10C play on Friday, the Valier Panthers defeated the J-I Rams, 50-41. The Rams got 28 points from Megan Herdina in the loss while Laine Lybeck added 16 . The Rams, 0-8 on the season, are still searching for their first win and host Chester on Friday and travel to Heart Butte on Saturday.

The Harlem Wildcats picked up a 55-40 win over the Rocky Boy Morning Stars in Rocky Boy. Harlem trailed 8-6 after the first quarter, but then outscored the Stars 22-9 in the second period to pull away. Harlem got 19 points from Belinda Horn while the Stars were led by Marty Stiffarm with 14 points and Allie Sunchild chipped in with 11.

Harlem (2-7) will host Malta and Wolf Point on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday night in Chester, the Blue Sky Eagles downed the host Coyotes 44-39. The Eagles got 12 points apiece from Jessica Patrick and Lindsey Anderson while Kaila Warren chipped in with 10. The Coyotes got 10 points from Alicia Fossen in the losing effort.

Blue Sky, 7-1 on the season, will host Turner tonight and Rocky Boy on Thursday. The Coyotes (3-5) will host J-I on Thursday night and travel to Sunburst on Saturday.

In Turner, the host Tornadoes edged the KG KouGars, 38-37. The game was tied at 17-17 at halftime, but Turner used a 15-4 third quarter to open the game up. KG rallied in the fourth, but came up short at the end of the game. Turner got 18 points from Kelsey Klindworth. The KouGars were led by Cady Arifin's 13 points in the losing effort.

Turner (4-4) will next visit Blue Sky tonight and host Box Elder on Saturday. KG (2-6) will visit Big Sandy on Thursday night and Rocky Boy on Saturday.

In some rare Monday action, the Belt Huskies downed the Box Elder Lady Bears, 57-44, in Box Elder.

Belt outscored the Bears, 18-9, in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Box Elder was led by Tami Infante's 14 points while Codi Raining Bird added 8 in the loss.

With the loss, the Bears fell to 4-4 on the season and will host Hays-Lodge Pole on Friday night and travel to Turner on Saturday.
