Donna R. Van Wechel, 66, died Tuesday Jan. 14, 2003, at her residence of natural causes. The funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Brad Ulgenes officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery. A luncheon following the committal rite will be held at her daughter's residence.

Donna was born Sept. 23, 1936, to Oscar and Hazel (Wallum) Goldberg in Havre. Her family farmed north of Inverness. She attended school in Inverness, and when her family moved to Havre each winter, she attended there. Donna graduated from Havre High School in 1954. She attended Northern Montana College for a short time.

On Nov. 23, 1955, Donna married James Van Wechel at Joplin. The couple had four children.

They lived north of Havre, then later moved north of Rudyard and then to Denver. Donna attended college in Denver as well. The couple later divorced. In 1977 Donna moved back to Havre. She worked at a local law office and later for Farm Credit Services until her retirement.

Donna's hobbies included watching football, doing crossword puzzles, and helping her grandchildren with their homework.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons Jeff and Jesse;

brothers, Donald and Harold; and a sister, Nancy.

She is survived by: a daughter, Valerie Hickman of Havre, a

son, Tim Van Wechel of Inverness; sister-in-law, Donna Goldberg of Havre; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Donna's honor may be made to a person's choice. Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
