Peter "Russ" Dahlen, 80, of Twin Valley, Minn., died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at a Fargo, N.D., hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. Visitation will be at the Anderson Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday. There also will be visitation one hour before the funeral service at the church. Interment will be at Twin Valley Memorial Garden Cemetery, Twin Valley, Minn.
Dahlen was born on March 16, 1922, on a farm east of Borup, Minn., to Julian and Clara M. (Ryding) Dahlen. He grew up and attended country school in that area and worked for area farmers.
Pete entered the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp at International Falls, Minn., during the 1930s. He was a merchant marine during World War II and worked in the boiler room on a ship that served in several places around the world.
Following his return home, he married Irene Hasz at Ada, Minn., in 1948. They bought a farm where they raised cattle and farmed. They then lived near Ada and later in the Twin Valley area. He owned a shoe shop in Twin Valley for a short time before it was destroyed by fire. Pete also worked in construction and in 1965 bought a farm northeast of Twin Valley that he operated until 1976. He then moved to east of Twin Valley where he lived until moving in the Valley Pine Apartments in Twin Valley in 1996.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Duane, Edsall and Marlin; sisters, Corrine, Shirley and Iona; grandsons, Isaiah and Joey; and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include his sons, Harvey (Mary) Dahlen, Don (Linda) Dahlen, and Robert (Terri) Dahlen, all of Twin Valley; daughters, Barbara (Bob) Perry of Breckenridge, Minn., and Dianne (David) Anderson of Havre; brothers, Herbert Dahlen of Mahnomen, Minn., and Francis (Mary) Dahlen of Coon Rapids, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
