ADELL MYERS

BIG SANDY - Adell Myers, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2003, in her home on the farm of natural causes with her beloved husband Bud close by her side.

A funeral service and celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Big Sandy High School Auditorium with Scott Rauscher officiating. Burial is to follow at the Big Sandy

Cemetery. Following the committal rite, a luncheon will be served at the Jerry Martin Memorial Hall in Big Sandy.

Adell was born Feb. 19, 1920, on the Kenilworth Prairie of Big Sandy to Adolph and Mildred (Johnson) Swanson. She was delivered by her grandmother, midwife Hannah Johnson. Adell spent her childhood on the prairie with her sisters Maxine and Mickie, attended Sunshine School and graduated as valedictorian from Big Sandy High School in 1937. She moved to Havre to attend college and work at Eddy's Bakery.

During that time, she met Lawrence "Bud" Myers of North Dakota. They were married Sept. 29, 1941, in Havre. Bud was drafted into the Army in 1942, and Adell joined him in California until he went overseas. Their oldest daughter was born in 1943 while Bud was in the Philippines. After Bud was honorably discharged, they moved back to Havre, where Adell worked for the U.S. Border Patrol. In 1947, the couple moved west of Big Sandy where they farmed for the last 56 years. Adell enjoyed entertaining and cooking for friends, and relatives, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson.

Adell was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Mildred (Johnson) Swanson, and daughter, Carolyn Martin.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence "Bud" Myers of Big Sandy; daughter, Sharon D. (Richard) Tomlinson of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; son, Larry (Julie) Myers of Big Sandy; sisters, Maxine Patera of Great Falls and Mickie Brandsma of Mission Viejo, Calif.; special daughter, Sue Hashley of Honolulu, Hawaii; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Memorials in Adell's honor may be made to The Gift of Life Housing Center, P. O. Box 7008, Great Falls, MT 59406-7008 or the Big Sandy Senior High School Scholarship Fund, Big Sandy, MT 59520.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in Havre.
