In its last tune-up before the North Central Regional Tournament, the Montana State University-Northern wrestling team split a pair of duals on Saturday in Boise, Idaho.
The Lights picked up three pins and a major decision to ease past NCAA Division II Central Washington University, 36-10.
Caleb Schaeffer (133), Emmett Willson (197) and Matt Carter (HWT) all picked up pins while Bobby Mantle picked up a 17-1 victory over Matt Lininger to pace Northern.
CWU picked up wins at 141, 149 and 165. Shaine Jamie needed overtime to defeat Northern's Anthony Haukenberry. Lance Nelson also lost a close decision to Kenny Salvini after leading for much of the match.
"We made a couple of mistakes in those matches," said head coach David Ray. "Haukenberry got caught late and Lance was leading with 10 seconds left but got a little overaggressive and gave up a takedown and a near fall."
Northern's wrestling didn't get better as the day wore on. The Lights lost just their fourth dual of the season, falling to nationally ranked NCAA Division I Boise State.
"We wrestled pretty sloppy against Boise," Ray said. "We made some mistakes that we don't usually make."
Northern got wins from Kyle Fisher at 174 and Willson while Andy Thompson won by forfeit. Fisher picked up his second win of the day, pinning Ben Gilliland at the 2:39 mark.
"We got on Kyle about scoring more," Ray said. "He really got going. I am happy for him."
Northern will head to Bismarck, N.D., this weekend for the North Central Regional.
