Ice Hawk Bantam squad wins own tourney, high school team wins two of three

The Havre Ice Hawk Bantam squad finished with a 3-1 record including a 4-3 victory over the Bozeman Stingers in the championship game to capture the Great White Northern Hockey Tournament at the Havre Ice Dome on Feb. 7-9.

Tyler Boyce scored three goals - all assisted by Michael Erickson, who also added a goal in the championship game.

Havre opened the tourney with a 5-3 victory over Bozeman. Boyce had a hat trick while Scott Ladenburg and Austin Small added goals in the game. Goalie David Zentmire stopped 28 shots on goal.

The Bantams continued their hot play with a 6-1 victory over the Great Falls Kodiaks. The Ice Hawks got two goals from Boyce while Austin Small and Michael Erickson each scored a goal and added two and three assists, respectively.

Havre's only loss in the tournament came in a 7-6 triple-overtime thriller against Vulcan, Alberta. Erickson picked up the hat trick while Boyce added two goals - one in the first round of shootouts - in the loss.

Boyce was named the tournament's offensive MVP while Small was earned the Iron Man Defense award.

The Bantams were also in action on Sunday with in Glasgow - splitting a pair of games. Havre started the day with a 5-2 loss to Monkota, Sask. Erickson scored both of the Ice Hawks' goals in the game. Havre rebounded with a 6-2 win over the Glasgow Ice Dogs in the second game. Scott Ladenburg and Boyce each had hat tricks while Amanda Boyce added Havre other goal in the win.

In other Ice Hawk hockey action, the high school squad picked up a pair of wins over Butte while falling to Great Falls. The Ice Hawks scored a 5-3 victory over Butte on Saturday morning. Brett Patrick scored two goals and added an assists while Garrett Drake scored a goal and had two assists in the win.

After the game, the Ice Hawks traveled to Great Falls for a night game against the Great Falls Kodiaks the same day. The Ice Hawks fell 4-2 to Great Falls. Havre got goals from Mark Benjamin and Drake in the loss.

The Ice Hawks traveled back to Havre to face Butte again on Sunday morning. Ice Hawk goalie Mark Larson had a stellar performance shutting out in Butte, 3-0. Cody McLain scored two goals and assisted on Brett Patrick's goal.

The high school squad travels to Missoula this coming weekend and then to Bow Island, Canada the following weekend. The Ice Hawks will be hosting the State High School tournament on March 6-9 which will feature 11 teams from around Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.

In other Ice Hawk action, the Squirt squad picked up a win and a tie in a pair of games in Missoula on Feb. 8-9. The Squirts skated to a 5-5 tie on Feb. 8. Jesse Majeres had a hat trick and Dillon McLain added two goals in the tie. Goalie Alex Sinclair finished with 17 saves in the game.

The Squirts picked up a 6-3 win over Missoula a day later. Majeres scored four goals in the game while C.J. Evans and Brett Barros each added a goals and an assist apiece in the win. Sinclair stopped 20 shots on goal for Havre.
