Ice Hawk Squirt team on a hot streak

The Havre Ice Hawk Squirt team is on a roll. The Ice Hawks have won five of their last six games including the championship at the Hockey in the Rockies tournament in Great Falls.

Havre got a goal and two assists each from Blaine Grisak and Dillon McLain and a goal and an assist from Jesse Majeres in a 3-2 win over the Missoula Bruins to capture the championship of the Hockey in the Rockies tournament two weekends ago. Goalie Alex Sinclair had 17 saves in the championship game.

To get to the championship, the Squirts picked up two wins and suffered its only loss in the past two weeks.

Havre opened the tournament on Valentine's day with a 6-1 win over the Great Falls Hurricanes. Majeres had four goals while C.J. Evans and Brett Barros each added goals and Dillon McLain dished out four assists in the win.

The following day, the Squirts picked up another win over the Bozeman Freeze, 5-3. Barros scored two goals and added two assists while Majeres, McLain and Evans all added goals in the win. Sinclair stopped 14 shots on goal.

Havre's only loss came later in the day when the Squirts fell to Missoula 4-1. Barros scored Havre's only goal on an assist from Ali Sinclair. Alex Sinclair stopped 21 shots.

Last weekend, the Squirts continued their solid play with a sweep over Sidney at the Havre Ice Dome.

Havre opened the doubleheader with a 3-0 win. McLain, Evans and Jonathan Austin all scored goals while Alex Sinclair stopped 13 saves to notch the shutout. The Ice Hawks added a 3-1 win later in the day as Majeres scored all thre goals while Sinclair had 15 saves.

The Ice Hawk Squirt team will be in action this weekend at the Havre Ice Dome when they host the State Squirt tournament starting on Feb. 28 and running through March 1.

In other Ice Hawk action, the high school squad fell to Missoula, 7-4 on Saturday. Levi Briese, Cody McLain, Jordon Patterson and Corey Stremcha accounted for Havre's scoring.

The Ice Hawks got a little revenge on Sunday with a 5-2 win. Briese, Patterson, Garrett Drake, Mark Benjamin and Andy Hanson all tallied goals for Havre. The high school team will travel to Bow Island, Canada this weekend for a three-day tournament before returning home for the State High School tournament on March 6-9.
