Montana State University-Northern head football coach Walt Currie announced the signing of five recruits for the 2003 football season. All five recruits are from Montana and will looked to help fill some holes left by a large graduating senior class.
Wide receiver and return specialist Adam Tranmer of Brady will bring quickness and speed to the Lights. The 5-8, 150 pound Tranmer was an all-state wide receiver and quarterback for the Dutton-Brady Cardinals this season.
"Adam is very and very competitive," Currie said. "He has always wanted to play for MSU-Northern."
Currie also signed kicker Chris Nagel (6-1, 155) of Columbia Falls in hopes of stabilizing the inconsistent Northern kicking game. Nagel is a two-time all-state soccer player and in his one year of high school football earned all-conference honors in the Western A.
"We believe Chris has great potential to become an excellent college kicker," Currie said.
Cody Wesche, a teammate of Tranmer at Dutton-Brady, has also signed to play football with the Lights. Wesche, a 5-11, 205 pound offensive lineman, will join his older brother Levi on the squd. Levi Wesche is also an offensive lineman for Northern.
"Cody has great feet and quickness," Currie said. "We look for him to follow in his brother's footsteps."
The Lights signed another younger brother of a current player in Austin Kirpach of Stanford. Kirpach's older brother, Garrett is currently a sophomore lineman for the Lights. Austin (6-3, 285) will play offensive line for the Lights.
"Austin has the size and height to be an outstanding offensive lineman for us," Currie said.
Currie also added a defensive lineman in the group. Roger Bergstrom (6-2, 215) of Fairfield will suit up as a defensive end for the Lights next season.
"Roger has the frame and ability to become a tremendous defensive end at the Frontier level," Currie said.
Northern, 1-8 last season, will begin spring practices in March.
