State of City is next week

The public will have the chance to hear Havre community leaders speak at the third annual State of the City Luncheon at noon Thursday at the Vets Club. Havre Mayor Bob Rice, Havre Public Schools superintendent Kirk Miller, and Bear Paw Development Corp. executive director Paul Tuss will be among the eight people scheduled to speak.

"It gives government and business leaders the opportunity to give their opinions on the state of the city and the area," said Havre Rotary Club president Harvey Brock. Brock is publisher of the Havre Daily News.

"I just think it's a good vehicle to inform people how things are going," Rice said.

Rice had not yet decided what he will say at the meeting, but he said he would try to come up with something new.

"I try not to be redundant," he said.

Other speakers will include Havre Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Debbie Vandeberg, Hill County Commissioner Doug Kaercher, Montana State University-Northern Chancellor Alex Capdeville, Northern Montana Health Care CEO David Henry and Hill County Electric Cooperative general manager John Magyar.

The Rotary Club is sponsoring the event along with the Havre Daily News and the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce.

Tuss, who has spoken at the meeting at the past two years, said it will be a combination of retrospect and new plans.

"It's a really good time for the organizations to talk about what they've done over the past 12 months, but also to talk about the future," he said.

Tuss said he planned to talk about a couple of projects Bear Paw is interested in "for the future of Havre." He expected his talk to last three or four minutes.

The price of the lunch is $6 per person. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP at 265-6795, ext. 25.
