Ice Hawks capture Squirt state title

The Havre Ice Hawk Squirt team road a solid defense and an explosive offense to a state squirt hockey title this past weekend at the Havre Ice Dome.

The Ice Hawks gave up just six goals during the entire tournament while scoring 21 goals en route to a perfect 4-0 record and a title.

"We really played solid defense the entire tournament," said Havre coach Mark Majeres. "Alex Sinclair did a nice job in goal and our defensemen - C.J. Evans, Justin Jensen, Danny Roe, Ali Sinclair and Chase Rolf - all played great. To only give up six goals the entire weekend is an accomplishment."

The Ice Hawks captured the state title with a stellar 5-1 victory over the Missoula Bruins in Sunday's championship game.

Dillon McLain scored two goals while Danny Roe, Brett Barros and Jesse Majeres each added goals to lead a balanced scoring attack. Goalie Alex Sinclair was nearly perfect in goal stopping 17 shots and only surrendering one goal.

Havre opened the tournament on Friday with a dominant 7-1 victory over the Bozeman Freeze. Majeres and Barros scored two goals and two assists each to lead the Ice Hawks. McLain added 2 goals and Roe chipped in with a goal and an assist in the game. Sinclair had another good game stopping 10 shots on goal.

Later on Friday night, the Ice Hawks picked up a 4-3 win over the Sidney Rangers. Roe scored two goals and Majeres and Barros added a goal apiece in the win. Sinclair had a busy game in goal stopping 15 shots.

With the two first round wins, Havre advanced to a semifinal matchup on Saturday against the Great Falls Hurricanes. The Ice Hawks put on a dominating show blowing past the Hurricanes, 9-1, to advance into Sunday's championship game.

Majeres continued to torch the opposing teams net scoring four goals and assisting on three more scores to lead the Ice Hawks. McLain added a hat trick and an assist and Barros also chipped in with a pair of goals in the win. Sinclair picked up 15 saves in goal for the Ice Hawks.
