College baseball teams hook up in Havre

It may seem a little early but there will be baseball at Legion Field on Saturday.

No, the Havre Northstars aren't playing. They begin official practice on Sunday. Instead, a pair of college teams will meet in Havre for a game on Saturday and a doubleheader on Sunday.

Dawson Community College of Glendive will take on the Prairie Baseball Academy junior varsity squad out of Lethbridge, Alberta.

Dawson features several players from around Montana and Wyoming and comes into Saturday with a 4-16 record on the season after playing a brutal early season schedule that featured junior college powers College of Southern Idaho, Salt Lake Community College and Dixie College.

Prairie Baseball Academy draws players from both the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Community College. PBA has several former players of the Fort MacLeod Royals, Vauxhall Spurs and Lethbridge Miners, all of whom played against the Northstars during the American Legion season.

The two teams will meet on Saturday for one nine-inning game starting at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the teams will play a pair of seven-inning games starting at 11 a.m.

There will be a full concession stand at the games and admission will be charged, with funds going to the Havre Youth Baseball program.

Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students and free for children under 12.
