Brockie leads Fort Belknap into semis

The Montana All-Star Tribal Challenge boys basketball tournament got off to a running start on Thursday highlighted by a last second game winning shot in quarterfinal action at the MSU-Northern gymnasium.

Harlem senior Colby Fetter dribbled the length of the court and found Hank Brockie open for a layup with .03 second remaining to give the Fort Belknap squad an 87-86 victory over Fort Peck. With the win, Fort Belknap moves into today's semifinal.

Brockie finished with 15 points for Fort Belknap, which had all five starters score in double figures. Jim Kennedy led the way with 22 points while Chris Cole added 15 points while Fetter and Ben Carrywater each finished with 13 points in the win.

Fort Peck was led by Brockton's Casey Weston and Tyson Bauer, who scored 23 and 22 points, respectively.

Fort Belknap advanced to the quarterfinals with a 132-41 trouncing of Rocky Boy in the opening round. Fort Belknap had five players finish in double figures, led by Kennedy's 32 points. Fetter added 23 and Carrywater had 19 while Cole and Jeremy Messerly chipped in with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Rocky Boy was led by Upton Whitford's nine points.

Fort Peck advanced to the quarterfinals with a 99-88 win over the Northern Cheyenne. Bauer and Weston, once again led Fort Peck scoring 38 and 22 points, respectively. Northern Cheyenne was led by Lucas King with 36 points and Gabe Mexican-Cheyenne with 23. Charles Brady added 17 in the loss for Northern Cheyenne.

Fort Belknap will meet the Blackfeet Nation squad who advanced to the semifinals with a 83-77 win over the Chippewa Cree in the opening round. Browning junior Karl Ingraham exploded for 44 points to lead the Blackfeet Nation squad. The Chippewa Cree got 27 points from Box Elder's Tim Rosette Jr. and 14 from Tyler Henry in the loss.

The Blackfeet moved into the semis with a bye in the second round because the Apsaalooka squad canceled due to poor roads coming from Billings.

Fort Belknap will meet the Blackfeet Nation today at 3 p.m. at the MSU-Northern gym.

In loser-out action, Northern Cheyenne edged Rocky Boy 81-79. Mexican-Cheyenne led the Northern Cheyenne with game high 34 points while King and Brady added 16 and 14 points each. Rocky Boy got a solid effort from A.J. The Boy with a team-high 27 points. Upton Whitford and Bill Watson scored 14 points apiece in the loss.

Fort Peck will face the Chippewa Cree today at 1:30 p.m. with the winner to face the Northern Cheyenne squad at 4:30 p.m.

The championship game with be tonight at 7:30 p.m.
