MAGDALEN GERSTENBERGER obituary

Magdalen "Maggie" Gersten-berger, 75, died on Monday, April 7, 2003, at a Denver, Colo., hospice due to kidney failure.

Cremation has taken place. The funeral Mass has taken place. A memorial service and sharing of memories will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral

Home in Havre. At the request of family, this memorial service is a casual dress affair.

Maggie was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of 3, she moved with her parents to homestead 16 miles north of Harlem known as The Big Flat. Maggie attended grade school at Cherry Patch Country School on The Big Flat, attended high school in Hogeland and Turner, and graduated from Harlem High School in 1945. Upon graduation Maggie worked for Buttrey Foods as a butcher and was later transferred to Havre and worked at Buttreys for approximately five years. She then became employed by Mountain Bell Telephone Company until her retirement. She then managed the A&W Drive-In for her son. She was also a greeter at Kmart in Havre for approximately two years.

Maggie enjoyed camping and their cabin in the Bear Paw Mountains. She also enjoyed being around her many friends and enjoyed life in general.

Maggie married James P. "Jim" Gerstenberger on May 12, 1951. Jim died on April 16, 1987.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, John E. and Magdalena Modic; and her brother, Victor J. Modic, all of Harlem.

She is survived by her son, Archbishop Richard Michael of Englewood, Colo.

Maggie requested no flowers; instead, she requested that people make a donation to their favorite charity in her name.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
