Track teams split up for meets

The Havre High School track team has been all over the state of Montana the last couple of weeks. That road show is set to continue this weekend as the Ponies travel to Whitefish and Cut Bank on Saturday, and even more athletes will remain in Havre for the Rocky Boy Invitational.

Most of the Havre High varsity team will travel to Whitefish Saturday morning for the very prestigious Whitefish Bulldog Invitational. This is the first time that Havre will compete in Whitefish, and Havre High head coach John Ita is looking forward to the trip for a variety of reasons.

"Hopefully we are going to make this trip to Whitefish a permanent part of our schedule," Ita said. "This is one of the best meets of the year in Class A and it will be very good for our kids to be a part of it.

"The trip to Whitefish will also be good for our athletes because they will get a chance to go against new competition on a totally different track and in a totally different setting," Ita added. "This will be a great prep meet for the state meet that is just around the corner."

The Whitefish meet, which begins at 10 a.m., will feature all of the teams that make up the Western A Division as well as several area Class B and C schools.

The Havre High junior varsity team will travel to the Cut Bank Invitational, which includes teams from the Northeast B Division and some area Class C schools. It begins at 9 .m.

Younger team members and throwers will remain in Havre for the Rocky Boy Invitational, which begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Havre Middle School track.
