Men's leagues open with good weather

The first week of the 2003 Beaver Creek men's golf league season is in the books. Unusual as it sounds, weather was extremely cooperative and course conditions were very favorable as the young season got under way on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

On Tuesday night, Farnik Bin Sales captured high team honors with a stellar 25.5 point performance. The team is composed of Rod and Rob Spicher, Pat Foster and Mike Farnik. Eric Fee of Hole 19 captured low gross honors with a round of 38. Mike Farnik and Ron Brenna shared net honors, each with a net score of 31.5.

On Wednesday night, Master Sports took home high team honors with a score of 23 team points. Master Sports is composed of Jim Kirkpatrick, Barry Kato, Wayne Bolken and Ryan Divish. Kirkpatrick also took home low gross, shooting an even-par round of 36. Steve Galbavy of Stone Child College garnered low net score with a 29.5.

In other golf news, the Beaver Creek women's league held its annual meeting on Monday and announced that its season will get under way on Thursday.

On April 19, Steve Johnstone of Havre recorded the fifth hole in one of his life on the 158-yard par-3 eighth hole at Beaver Creek Golf Course. Johnson used an 8-iron on the hole. The event was witnessed by Ben Erickson, Don Normandy and Bud Baldwin.

On Sunday, BCGC held the annual Men's Association Kickoff scramble under extremely tough playing conditions. The tournament, which was a four-person, blind draw scramble, was won by the team of Greg Munson, Mike Evans, Dan Weidinger and Lowell Swenson with a 10-under-par 62.

Dan Wagner, Bill Schilling, Mark Henderson and Barry Zanto finished in second place with a 63, and the team of Rick Reynolds, Tom Reynolds and Tom Baker III came in third place with a score of 8-under-par 64.
