Chinook pro shop under new management

The early part of the 2003 men's golf association league season continued this week at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Havre.

On Tuesday night, the Elks Club took home high team honors with 23.5 total points. The Elks team consists of Ron Surber, Butch Albertson, Bill Schilling and Jerry Kuhn. Low gross honors went to Bruce Normandy and Jeff Jensen. Both players shot a 1-over -par 37. Low net score for the night went to Jim Brenna, Dick Scharfe and Scott McLean. All three golfers turned in a net score of 31.5.

On Wednesday night, Havre Ford captured the high team score with 23 team points. The Ford team consists of Brett Gilman, Pete and Steve Steinmetz, and George Ferguson. Low gross honors went to John Johnstone with a 1-under-par 35. Low net was also captured by Pete Steinmetz with a 29.

The Havre women's golf association also kicked off its season on Thursday night, but results were not available.

Meanwhile, the Chinook Golf Course will hold its first tournament of the season on May 17. The second annual Icebreaker tournament will begin at 10 a.m. and it will be a 27-hole two-person team tournament. The entry fee is $50 per team and is open to the first 26 teams that sign up. USGA or established course handicaps will be required and all proceeds will benefit the newly opened Bear Paw Pro Shop.

The shop is under the new ownership and direction of Scott and Jackie Gunderson and Mike and Brenda Seymour. The pro shop is open for business every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and it features all pro shop amenities. One of the new changes that the pro shop has brought to the course is that all golfers will be required to sign in before teeing off on the first hole.
