Pony girls tennis team sweeps duals over Coyotes, Sugarbeeters

The Chester tennis team hosted a dual invitational on Saturday in Havre at the Bill Vaughey Memorial Tennis Courts. The dual featured the host Coyotes, the Chinook Sugarbeeters and the Havre High girls team.

The Blue Ponies swept their duals with the Coyotes and Beeters, while Chinook and Chester finished in a 1-1 tie.

"Going 19-3 over the weekend was really good for our girls," said Havre High head coach Sam Dierman. "This weekend was really good for our prepration for the last couple of weeks of the season because the girls got to play full matches and that worked out really nice for us."

In the dual with the Coyotes, the Ponies went 14-3, led by wins from top singles players Amy McLain and Crystal Pyrak.

"Amy and Crystal went undefeated this weekend and they both played really well," Dierman said. "Tess Ritter of Chester is an outstanding player so these matches were really good for both Amy and Crystal."

Havre also made a clean sweep of things with a 5-0 victory over Chinook. McLain won the only singles match of the dual, and Havre's doubles teams combined to go 4-0 against the Beeters.

Next up for the Ponies will be a trip to Lewistown on Saturday for the Lewistown Invitational. After a week off from competition, the Havre High boys team will also return to action on Saturday in Lewistown.
