ROBERT BARTON obituary

CHINOOK - Robert N. Barton, 75, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at his home due to natural causes.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in the American Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery with military honors.

Robert was born in Blackboys, Sussex, England, on Dec. 20, 1927, to George and Dora (Shaw) Barton. He attended elementary and high school in England. Robert came to New York and then Montana in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Robert attended Northern Montana College for two years.

He married Javae Strain on June 9, 1957, in Chinook.

Robert worked for the city of Chinook water plant from March 1, 1958, until retiring on March 30, 1990. He also did refrigeration work with Harry Allman and later on his own for a number of years.

Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, carpentry work, playing cards and having coffee with his coffee buddies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Javae Barton, on Jan. 4, 2001, and three brothers in England.

Survivors include his daughters, Laurie Seymour of Foreman, Ark., and Lynda Schilling of Chinook; sons, Tom Barton of Palmdale, Calif., and John Flynn of Midway, Utah; one brother in England; six sisters in England; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Northern Montana Hospice.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
