Stallions 'AA' squad roughs up Northstars

The Great Falls Stallions 'AA' squad scored six runs in the third inning and tacked on six more runs in the sixth to grab a 17-7 win over the Havre Northstars in nonconference action Tuesday night at Legion Park in Great Falls.

Trailing 7-5, the Stallions capitalized on a pair of Northstar errors in the third inning to score six runs on just three hits and take a 11-7 lead. Stallions pitching then held Havre hitless over the next four innings. Great Falls scored six more runs on seven hits in the sixth inning to end the game early.

Josh Talley led the Stallions hitters going 3-5 with five RBI including three-run triple and a two-run double. Ray Cook also banged out three hits and a pair of RBIs in the win.

Havre was led by Patch Wirtzberger, who finished with a team-high three hits. Tyler Thompson added a pair of hits and an RBI while Levi Briese finished 1-3 with a pair of RBIs in the loss.

Northstar pitcher Brandon Morse was saddled with the loss after surrendering 12 earned runs on 11 hits before being removed in the sixth inning. Corey Junck finished the game in relief.

Chase Shanks picked up the win in relief of Randy Rust.

Havre dropped to 3-5 on the season and will be in action tonight when they take on the Havre Comets in a nine-inning conference game at 7 p.m. at Legion Field.
