Skylights sign 6-3 junior college center

Montana State University-Northern women's basketball coach is continuing to add size to his team for the 2003-04 season.

Megan Valgardson, a 6-3 center, has signed an NAIA national letter of intent to play basketball for the Skylights next season. Valgardson is coming to the Skylights from the College of Eastern Utah in Price, Utah, where she averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and two block shots a game. Her rebounding and blocked shots averages were tops in the conference.

"Megan is a fundamentally sound player with strong post moves," Erickson said. "She has proved to be a dominant rebounder, shot blocker, and passes exceptionally well from the post."

For her efforts this past season, Valgardson earned NJCAA all-region team honors as well as being named to the all-tournament team in three tournaments. She was named her team's most valuable player and Eastern Utah's female athlete of the year.

"It will be nice to have a player of her size and strength to help develop our future posts," Erickson said. "She is also capable of extending the defense and hitting the outside shot. Megan will add some experience and leadership to the program."

A native of Provo, Utah, Valgardson had a stellar prep career at Tempview High School where she twice earned all-state honors and was named to the all-region team three times.

She is the daughter of Richard and Sheila Valgardson of Provo.

Valgardson is the eighth player Erickson has signed for next season. She joins Ashley Trulock of Troy, Heather Riener of Superior, Carly Kleinert of Sunburst and Sheena Darlington of Big Sandy as post recruits.
