KATHERINE WINDY BOY obituary

FORT BELKNAP - Katherine Alice First Raised Windy Boy, her Indian name was Wamni Hoda Wia (Grey Eagle Woman), 74, died Thursday morning May 22, 2003 at a Havre Care Center of natural causes.

Wake services began at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church and a wake will begin at 3 p.m. today at the Red Whip Center in Fort Belknap,

with the funeral service beginning 9 a.m. Saturday at the Pony Hill Catholic Church with John Sunchild officiating. Burial will be held at the Pony Hill Cemetery on U.S. Highway 2.

Katherine was born Aug. 8, 1928 to Henry and Alice (Gone High) First Raised Sr. at Fort Belknap. She was raised and educated in Harlem and graduated from Harlem High School.

She married John Windy Boy Sr. at Fort Belknap in 1947. The couple made their home in Rocky Boy and had nine children.

Katherine enjoyed beading, powwows and spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Katherine worked at the Box Elder School from 1973 to 1993 and at the Iron Horse Caf and the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd previously.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Henry First Raised; her husband, John Windy Boy Sr. in 1995; a twin son, John Windy Boy Jr. in 1978; sisters, Margie Bercier and Mary Blackbird; brothers, Henry Jr. and Bryan First Raised; two grandchildren, John Henry Windy Boy II and Howard Racine Jr. in 1995.

Katherine is survived by her daughters, Geri (Howard) Racine of Rocky Boy, Myra Windy Boy of Rocky Boy, Kathy (Stanley) Gardipee of Rocky Boy, Valerie Windy Boy of Great Falls and Cheryl Lynn (Francisco) Windy Boy of Rocky Boy; adopted daughters, Toni Plummer Alvernaz of Glasgow and Florine Whitehorse of Anadarko, Okla .; adopted sons, Eric Sampson of Wapato, Wash., and Tony Isaacs of Taos, N.M .; sons, Alvin (Karla) Windy Boy Sr. of Rocky Boy, Everett (Denise) Windy Boy Sr. of Havre, Jonathan Windy Boy of Rocky Boy, Wesley (Ursula) Windy Boy of Tuba City, Ariz .; sisters; Josephine Johnson of Fort Belknap and Evelyn Speakthunder of Fort Belknap; brothers, Thomas First Raised of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Amos First Raised of Malta; grandchildren, Maureen and Tara Jordan, Marissa Gardipee, Alvin Windy Boy Jr., Big Wind Windy Boy Jr., Naomi Windy Boy, Jaycene Windy Boy, Tina James, Marci Buckman, Taunia Racine, Jennifer Windy Boy, Tana Windy Boy, Anthony Windy Boy, Jaimi Windy Boy, Everett Windy Boy Jr., Kaloni Windy Boy, Alonzo Windy Boy, Eldon Windy Boy, Bazillu Tamalawash, Jason Smith, Dewayne Otero, Deidre Otero and Vern Otero; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
