Junk Fest set

Got junk?

The Chinook Chamber of Commerce wants to help you sell it. At the chamber's Annual West Fest to be held in Chinook June 28, thrifty entrepreneurs can peddle their wares during the so-called Junk Fest.

"You can bring anything - crafts and garage sale stuff. Anything you want to sell," said Junk Fest organizer Patty Wass. "We're trying to do something different and perk things up to get everyone's interest."

The Junk Fest will begin at 8 a.m. in the vacant lot across from Main Street in Chinook. The street will be closed for the event. Indoor space is available in the event of poor weather, Wass said.

"Our hope is to have the Junk Fest fill up at least two blocks," said co-organizer Deb Davies in a press release. "We all love to look for treasures, and it will be a great opportunity to sell your wares with a maximum crowd in downtown Chinook."

There is no entrance fee for the Junk Fest, but people are responsible for bringing their own tables to place their items on, Wass said.

People can also participate by donating items to be sold by various service organizations, Davies said.

"If you have been wanting to clean out your storeroom or garage, we hope (people) will join us and help make this a huge success."

Interested parties should contact Wass at 357-4124 to register for the Junk Fest.

Other events planned for the West Fest include a three-on-three basketball tournament, a community barbecue and a parade. The Fest is scheduled to coincide with the Bear Paw Roundup Rodeo, which will be held June 27-28 at the Blaine County Fairgrounds.

The rodeo will include live performances at 7 p.m. each night, and Calcutta auctions will be held at 4 p.m. each afternoon. Anyone with questions about the rodeo should call Mike Inman at 357-2227.

The barbecue, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, will begin at noon on Saturday. The cost is $3 a plate.

The parade will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday. It will have a patriotic theme and everyone is welcome to participate. Horses, children, floats and other vehicles are welcome to enter the parade, said parade organizer Nancy Hansen.

Hansen added that she would like to see people register their classic cars for the parade. People with questions or who would like to register should call Hansen at 357-3272.

The First Annual Takin' it to the Streets Three-on-Three tournament will be held June 28-29. The format is double elimination, and costs $25 per team to enter.

Age brackets for both boys and girls are 10 to 13-years-old, 14 to 16-years-old and 17-to adult. There are also a men's over-35 and coed brackets. Teams need to provide both light and dark colored jerseys for the tournament.

Teams need to register by June 5 either by calling the Blaine County Extension Service at 357-3200 or by mailing their entry fee to P.O. Box 744, Chinook MT, 59533. Included should be the team name and the names of three players and one alternate.

All proceeds go to the Chinook Gymnasium Foundation Fund.
