Crimestoppers tourney on tap for the weekend

Beaver Creek Golf Course in Havre was the site of a lot of activity over the past 10 days. Memorial Day weekend brought the first real summer weather to Havre and golfers took advantage of the fine conditions.

The Havre Golf League Associations also took advantage of the fine weather this past week, as scores were consistently low over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday nights. And even the BCGC grounds crew took advantage of the good weather conditions, as they were able to aerate the greens in preparation for the heavy summer golfing traffic that is soon to come.

As for the golf itself, Tuesday night saw the Shanty Bar earn high team point honors, as it racked up 24 total points. The Shanty consists of Ed Barsanti, John Tibbetts, Scott McLean and Don Christopherson. Brett Gilman, Bruce Normandy and Jeff Jensen all shared low-gross honors with rounds of 37, while Ed Schmidt took home low-net score with a 29.5.

On Wednesday night, Stone Child College grabbed high-team honors with 23.5 team points. Stone Child is led by Frank Henry, Larry Morsette, Ed Stamper and Steve Galbavy. For the second straight night, BCGC course superintendent Brett Gilman brought home low gross honors. On Wednesday night, Gilman fired an even-par 36. Meanwhile, Havre High head girls basketball coach Dennis Murphy earned low-net score honors with a 29.5.

There are three weeks left in the first half of the regular season and the top four teams from the first half will automatically qualify for the playoffs which will be held in September. The Elks Club is leading the Tuesday night standings while Stone Child College has a firm grasp on the Wednesday night leaderboard.

The Thursday night womens league results were not made avilable to the Havre Daily News at press time.

Also, on Sunday the BCGC tournament schedule will heat back with the annual Crimestoppers Tournament. The Crimestoppers tourney is a two-person best ball format and it will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
