Tournament action heating up at BCGC

The summer golf tournament season is officially in full swing and nowhere is that more evident than at Beaver Creek Golf Course. This past week BCGC played host to its usual three nights of league play, and the weekend saw two tournaments played out as well.

On Tuesday night, the Shanty Bar took home high team honors in men's league for the second straight week. The team of Don Christopherson, John Tibbetts, Steve Johnstone and Ken Spackman racked up 22 total points on the night. Jeff Jensen and Tom Adams shared low gross honors for the evening. Both Jensen and Adams fired solid 1-under-par rounds of 35. Meanwhile, Matt Corcoran earned low net score honors with a score of 32.

On Wednesday night, Michelob Light catapulted itself into playoff contention by grabbing high-team honors with a point total of 23.5. Michelob Light consists of Jim Kato, Tom Baker III, Rick Reynolds and Dick Scharfe. Kato and Kraig Greenwood shared low gross honors with rounds of 36. Lowell Swenson earned low net honors with a net score of 30.5.

There are just two weeks left in the first half of the men's association regular season and the playoff race is very tight on both nights. The Elks Club is holding on to the top spot on Tuesday night with 123 total points. Drivers Choice and Hole 19 are tied for second with 117.5 points, and Stockman Bank is in fourth place with 115.5 points. Wagner Plumbing is sitting just a half of a point out of the playoffs heading into this week. There are five teams within five points of fourth place. Boxcars has the bye for this week.

Wednesday night is equally close as far as the playoff race is concerned. Stone Child College is still in first place with 142.5 points. Beaver Creek is in second followed by Koefod Insurance and Michelob Light. Independence Bank and Havre Ford are a half and a full point out of the playoffs, respectively, and there are three more teams that are less than five points off the pace. Independence Bank and Tilleman Motors will be out this Wednesday night.

On Thursday night, the ladies league top team honors went to the Golf Course Restaurant with a whopping 27 points. The restaurant team consists of Becky Wimmer, Debbie Ritz, Melanie Fee and Shauna Albrecht. Melanie Fee earned low gross honors for the night with a solid round of 47, and Carolyn Patrick and Nancy Morrell shared low net for the night with a 33.5.

On Saturday, the HEDA tournament was another success and on Sunday afternoon the Crimestoppers two-person best ball tournament featured a solid field of teams that were able to take advantage of very favorable conditions. The tournament was won by the team of Lowell Swenson and Irish Ireland, who came in with a score of 52. Second-place honors went to Becky Wimmer and Dale Britt with a total score of 55, and Steve Johnstone and Tom Haas grabbed third place with a final score of 57.

This Saturday BCGC will play host to the annual Shanty Bar Tournament. The Shanty tourney is a four-person scramble format and the 18-hole event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.
