GLORIANNE MANGOLD obituary

Glorianne Virginia Mangold, 65, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at a Great Falls hospice of cancer.

Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester. Vigil prayers will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the mortuary chapel. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Inverness with burial following at the Rudyard Cemetery. A luncheon will be at the Rudyard Catholic Youth Center.

Glorianne was born April 3, 1938, in Havre to Clinton Evans Sr. and Mathilda "Tillie" Jenniges. She grew up in Rudyard and received her formal education there. In the years that followed, she worked as a waitress at various restaurants, including Evans Caf, Rudyard Caf, and K-Lanes.

Gloria married Howard W. "Howie" Mangold on Nov. 4, 1972, in Great Falls. They lived in Great Falls for one year and then moved back to Rudyard where Gloria and her mother opened the "Snack Shack." Gloria also worked for a short time as a cashier at Sanvik's Store. She and Howard eventually purchased the Rudyard and Grand hotels. In addition to operating the hotels, Gloria worked part time as janitor at the Rudyard Bank and as a bartender at Kline's Bank Bar.

In the early 1990s Gloria was diagnosed with lupus, so she was unable to continue her rigorous working life. She began traveling to Kalispell to visit her daughter and family and it was there that she worked as a relief houseparent at the Guidance Home.

Gloria's husband died from complications of throat cancer on Oct. 13, 1998. About that same time, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She moved to Great Falls for treatment and to be near her daughter's family. She went into remission twice. On Mother's Day of 2002, she was given one to two months to live as the cancer had spread to her bones. She moved to the Missouri Manor nursing facility in Great Falls, where she fought a courageous battle for 13 months. Her condition deteriorated so her family moved her to the Peace Hospice Residence on June 12.

Gloria enjoyed sewing, embroidery, crafts, reading romances and historical novels, crossword puzzles, listening to music, playing cards, like solitaire and kings-in-the-corners. She collected spoons and wheat pennies. Her favorite TV program was the "David Letterman Show." She was an excellent cook who will be remembered for her homemade soups and rouqueforte dressings. She made decorated dishtowels for family newlyweds and she made personalized handmade greeting cards.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Survivors include her daughter, Doreen (Mick) Seidlitz of Great Falls; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; four stepchildren, Debbie Lammerding, Steve Mangold, Howard Mangold and Bill Mangold; numerous stepgrandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann Riley of Salem, Ore., Cyrilla Burrows of Chester, Arliss Keller and Teresa Bartholomew, both of Billings, Valorie Peterson of Lansing, Mich., Anita "Nicky" Evans of DuBuque, Iowa, and Julie Holt of Havre; four brothers, Mathias "Tiger" Evans and William "Bill" Evans, both of Havre, Clinton Evans Jr. of Auburn, Wash., and Eugene Evans of Kalispell; and many nieces and nephews.
