Gilman, Reynolds take home Beaver Blast two-day title

The 2003 Beaver Blast golf tournament was held this past weekend at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Havre and on Sunday afternoon the race for the prestigious golf title was as hot as the weather.

The 36-hole, modified Stableford scoring tournament was captured by the team of Brett Gilman and Rick Reynolds with a stellar two-day total of 34 points. Defending champions Kevin Harada and Julie Wagner finished in second place with a total of 33.5 points. Harada and Wagner scored 20 points on Sunday to win the calcutta portion of the event.

Third place went to the team of Patrick Winderl and Lance Reesor. That duo scored a solid 19.5 points on Sunday to finish third in the overall standings as well as second in the calcutta.

Sunday's individual low-gross score went to Tom Adams with a 2-over-par 74. Steve Johnstone captured low-net score with a 68. Saturday's low-gross winner was Brent Zanto with a 1-over-par 73 and low net went to Larry Morsette with a 63.

In all, 72 golfers participated in the two-day tournament, which was held as a fund-raising event for Montana State University-Northern Athletics.

This past Tuesday, Hi-Line Drilling captured high-team honors in men's league golf. The team of Tracy McLain, Brad Ruhkamp, Roger Freier and Steve Bebee scored 24 total points. Nick Obie captured low-gross honors with a 1-under-par 35 and Dale Britt earned low-net honors with a 30.

Wednesday night saw Havre Ford grab high team score with a 23-point outing. Havre Ford consists of Brett Gilman, Kevin Harada, George Ferguson and Dan Wagner. Jeff Jensen earned low-gross honors after firing a 2-under-par 34, and Brian Jenkins captured low net with a 26. This week the Corner Bar will be out on Tuesday night and Koefod Insurance and Office Equipment have byes on Wednesday.

On Thursday night, 15 West grabbed high-team honors for the week in ladies league action with a total of 24.5 points. 15 West is composed of Teresa Brown, Julie Mariani, Laurie Hurlburt and Dayna Springer. Carrie Kato earned low gross for the night with a round of 44. Terri Earl captured low-net score with a 30.
