Golf leagues warm up with summer heat

Just as a major heat wave and dry spell has settled in across the Hi-Line, business has really heated up in the stretch run of the 2003 golf season at Beaver Creek Golf Course.

In Tuesday night men's league action, Pizza Pro took a major step towards earning a coveted playoff berth with a 26.5 point outing. Pizza Pro consists of Lyle Miller, Russ Luke Kelly Benson and Gary Stremcha. Jon Johnstone earned low-gross honors with a 1-under-par 35 and Lyle Miller grabbed low net for the night with a 26.5.

Wednesday night saw Tilleman Motors take high team honors with 23 team points. Tilleman's is comprised of Chuck Wimmer, Jerry Schubert, Dave Herman and Larry Tilleman. Jim Kato once again grabbed low gross after firing a 2-under-par 34. George Ferguson earned low-net honors for the night with a net score of 30.5.

Week four of the second half of the 2003 season will see the Shanty Bar out on Tuesday night and Beaver Creek Golf Course and Tilleman Motors will receive byes on Wednesday.

In Thursday night ladies league action, Making Waves earned high-team honors with 22 team points. Making Waves consists of Carolyn Patrick, Karia Gerky, Melissa Oberquell and Nancy Morrell. Carrie Kato took home low-gross honors with a round of 44 and Lana Herman earned low-net honors with a 28.

After a weekend reprieve, the BCGC tournament schedule picks back up this Saturday with the second annual Pennington's Scramble. The Pennington's tourney is a four-person 18-hole scramble and it will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The following Monday IGA will host it's annual scramble event which is a 9-hole scramble set to tee off Monday afternoon.
