NICK ASHBY obituary

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Nick Ray Ashby, 35, of Gillette, Wyo., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at a Campbell County hospital.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Gillette with the Rev. Chad Brucklacher officiating. Visitation will be one

hour prior to services at the church.

Nick Ashby was born on Aug. 31, 1967, in Havre to Rita Doney, and later adopted by George Ashby Sr. He was raised and educated in Gillette, Wyo.

Nick's love for competitive motocross led him to founding Powder Basin Motocross, where he also started and developed the track. He also developed the initial Powder River Basin Methane drives, which were used as a template for all others.

Nick was a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, Deana, loved watching and supporting their girls in basketball. Watching Looney Toons and playing with their dog, Duke, was a special time for Nick and his girls.

Nick enjoyed fishing, hunting, and many outdoor activities. He was a great cook and liked to tinker with electronics. He was spiritual, had a great sense of humor, and was always there for his friends.

Nick was preceded in death by his mother, Rita, and his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife, Deana Ashby of Gillette, Wyo .; daughters, Paige and Kaycee Ashby of Gillette, Wyo .; brothers, George Ashby Jr. of Rawlins, Wyo., and Roy Cochran of Montana; sister, Gina Waters of Fort Worth, Texas; father, George Ashby Sr. of Rawlins, Wyo .; biological father, Lyle Cochran of Montana; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Donations to benefit Nick's daughters may be sent to the family in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home at 210 W. 5th St., Gillette, WY 82716.
