Art on the Avenue will transform downtown Havre on Saturday

The Havre Downtown Merchants and the Heritage Center are co-sponsoring Art on the Avenue on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Art on the Avenue is a summer arts and antiques festival. A variety of art mediums, including sidewalk chalk art, as well as a variety of crafts and fine art classes, will be offered.

The Heritage Center will host workshops throughout the day. "Feeding Creativity" is an art opportunity for area youths. A total of 160 art totes, complete with art supplies, will be given to the first 160 kids who attend the session, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Other workshops at the Heritage Center will include papermaking, wheat weaving and basic brush stroke. At noon the Clack Foundation will host a barbecue with musical entertainment.

Montana Actors' Theatre will put on a street theater performance at noon after music by the Bullhook Bottoms Barbershop Chorus at 11 a.m.

Saturday Market will be at the Town Square along with crafters participating in the Art on the Avenue event.

Members of the Havre Art Association will have their art on display in the Atrium. Several area fine art vendors will have booths set up along Third Avenue and at the Heritage Center.

Here is the schedule of events:

Saturday Market, Town Square, 9 a.m. to noon

Bullhook Bottoms Barbershop Chorus, Koefod sidewalk, 11 a.m. to noon

Montana Actors' Theatre street theater, Koefod sidewalk, noon to 1 p.m.

Barbecue and live music, outside the Heritage Center, noon to 3 p.m.

Sidewalk chalk art, Atrium Sidewalk, 10 a.m. to noon

Fine art and crafts booths will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Booths inside the Atrium will include fine art by Ginny Streeper, Margaret Hayes and Ramona Lohse. Booths in the Heritage Center will feature the fine art and bronze sculptures of Don Ream, the fine art, jewelry and quilts of Vicky Campbell and Kris Shaw, the photography of Gena Montgomery, and the pottery and fine art of Penny Strommen.

Ben and Marge Bendickson's clothing with lace and denim will be on display on the Wells Fargo sidewalk, as will the glass art and stained glass of Craig Waldon of Chester.

Here is the schedule of the art and crafts workshops.

Jessica McIntosh and Jeannie Adams will present a workshop called "Sweet Creations" at The Candy Bouquet on handmade checkbook and credit card holders and handmade wire jewelry from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Feeding Creativity" will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Heritage Center courtroom.

Steve Helmbrecht will teach papermaking in Room 206 of the Heritage Center from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Janet Christenof will teach basic wheat weaving in Room 206 of the Heritage Center from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Cindy Norton will teach basic brush stroke in Room 206 of the Heritage Center from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
