LANE HAUGE obituary

Lane M. Hauge, 53, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at a Havre hospital due to complications from Shy-Drager syndrome.

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First

Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Zoe Coutts officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the church immediately after the services at the graveside.

Lane was born July 2, 1950, in Havre to Lester and Dorthea (Miltz) Hauge. He was raised and educated in Havre. He attended Montana State University where he received a bachelor of science degree in fish and wildlife management in June of 1973. He served in the U.S. Peace Corps for three years in Costa Rica. He then attended Gonzaga University School of Law and graduated magna cum laude in 1979.

He married Janine Leeds in April of 1977 in Havre. The couple then moved to New York where Lane earned a master of law degree in taxation in June of 1981 from New York University School of Law and also graduated as magna cum laude. He then joined the law firm of Emmanuel, Sheppard and Condon in Pensacola, Fla., where he was a partner. He returned to Havre in 1990 to practice law. He was the third generation of Hauges to practice law in north-central Montana. This year Lane formed a partnership with Tom Sheehy, Mark Harshman and Steve Gannon.

Lane was a member of the American Judicature Society, American Bar Association, the Florida Bar and the State Bar of Montana. He was also a member of the Havre Youth Baseball Association.

Lane enjoyed hunting and fishing, reloading and all sports, especially baseball.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Lester N. Hauge in 1988.

Survivors include his children, Torger Jon Hauge serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, Joan Elizabeth of Havre and Anders Leeds of Havre; mother, Dorthea Hauge of Big Sandy; brother, Lester "Bud" Hauge Jr. of Florida; sister, Mary Lou Haney of Spokane, Wash.; aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
