Trent Normandy, Toner win club titles at BCGC

Champions were crowned over the past week at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Havre despite windy and smoky conditions.

BCGC held its annual club championship on Saturday and Sunday and new champions were crowned on both sides. Havre High School senior Trent Normandy captured the men's title with a 36-hole total score of 147. Steve Strand was second with a 154, and Frank Henry was third at 154. On the women's side Anna Toner won the 2003 title with a 36-hole total of 210. Kelly Mazurkiewicz also came in with 210, but Toner earned the title via a tiebreaker. Havre High freshman Alli Ward was third with a 221.

On Thursday night, the Havre Women's League crowned its 2003 champion. Independence Bank defeated the Golf Course Restaurant 18.5 to 17.5. Independence Bank was composed of Carol Culp, Patti Nault, Collyn Peklewsky and Terri Earl. GCR was made up of Pam Veis, Shauna Albrecht, Kelly Mazurkiewicz and Melanie Fee. In the consolation match, Havre Heating and Air Conditioning grabbed third-place honors by soundly defeating Making Waves 23.5 to 12.5. The third-place team was composed of Karan Evans, Julie Holt, Kim Evans and Lana Herman. Making Waves was led by Carolyn Patrick, Melissa Oberquell, Karia Gerky and Nancy Morrell.

In men's league action Tuesday night, Pizza Pro grabbed high-team honors with 23.5 points. Pizza Pro was composed of Jeff Jensen, Kelly Benson, Russ Luke and Gary Stremcha. Jim Kato earned low gross for the night with a 3-under-par 33 and Jerry Schubert grabbed low net with a 24.5.

On Wednesday night, Michelob Light earned high-team honors with 23.5 points. Michelob Light was led by Jim Kato, Dick Scharfe, Rick Reynolds and Tom Baker III. The trio of Jeff Jensen, Chuck Wimmer and Steve Johnstone shared low gross with even-par rounds of 36. Shawn Huse grabbed low net with a score of 30.

This week is the final week of the men's league regular season.
