Havre High boys finish 11th at Helena Invitational

The Havre High boys golf team fired a second-round 320 at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena to finish in 11th place in the two-day Helena Invitational. The Pony boys came into Tuesday's round in 10th place after shooting a 321 at the tough Green Meadows Country Club.

The Ponies finished ahead of four teams Class AA teams, but were 34 shots behind the top Class A finisher, Whitefish, which finished at 607 for the tourney.

Senior Trent Normandy led the Ponies with a two-day total of 151, just two strokes out of the top 10. After shooting a disappointing 78 on Monday, Normandy rallied to shoot a two-over-par- 73 on Tuesday.

Ben Erickson and Chazz Hurlburt also had solid tournaments for the Ponies. After shooting a first-round 76, Erickson followed up with a second-round 81 to finish at 157. Hurlburt rallied after a first-round 81, to shoot 78 on Tuesday. Havre's scoring was rounded out by Matt Hedstrom with a 177 (86-91) and Tony Jensen with a 178 (90-88).

The Havre girls squad showed a significant improvement on Tuesday. The Pony girls combined for a score of 446, a significant improvement over Monday's score of 468, to finish in 12th place.

Brittany Job fired a second-round 97 to go with a first-round 102 to lead the Pony girls at 199. Freshman Alli Ward had a solid tournament shooting a 217 with rounds of 110-107. All three remaining Pony girls also improved on their first-round scores in their second round. Morgan Zimmer fired a 126-122 for a 248, Catlin Anderson carded a 130-124 for a 254 and Kim Bryson shot a 148-120 for a 268.

The Ponies return home for a few days of practice before heading to East Glacier for the Browning Invitational.
