Chinook continues to roll , Blue Sky outlasts KouGars

The Chinook High School volleyball team continues to roll through opponents. The Sugarbeeters remained undefeated as they swept a pair of District 2B matches over Poplar and Plentywood this past weekend.

Middle hitter Kayla Erskine had 12 kills and a pair of aces in the two matches while Chinook also got solid performances from Tiffany Cuerth, Monica Thackeray and Kelsey Crampton.

Chinook will travel to 2B rival Glasgow on Friday and head to Havre to take on the Ponies on Saturday.

The Blue Sky Eagles also continue to roll through District 6C. The Eagles picked up a key conference win this weekend, but the win didn't come easy. The Eagles needed five games to defeat a scrappy KG KouGar squad Friday night in Rudyard. KG took the first two hard-fought games 26-24 and 25-22, but Blue Sky rallied, winning three straight to take the match.

The senior duo of Kaila Warren and Lindsay Anderson continued their solid play for Blue Sky. Warren had 15 kills and four aces while Anderson had six kills, five aces and eight digs in the win.

J-I also had a solid weekend, picking up a pair of wins in a triangular match at Box Elder. The Rams swept the Bears and Rocky Boy in three games each.

Hannah Pimley had 17 kills and three blocks in the two matches while Megan Herdina added 27 assists in the win.

Rocky Boy got seven kills, three digs and three blocks from Marty Rae Stiffarm and a five assists from Alli Sunchild in the loss. Box Elder was led by Ventura Campbell with five kills and two aces.

In another triangular in Box Elder on Saturday, Rocky Boy knocked off defending champ Sunburst in four games while the Refiners beat up on the host Bears.

The Morning Stars got 15 kills from Stiffarm and 11 assists and five aces from Sunchild in the win. Box Elder was led by Tori Belcourt with three kills and two aces in the loss.

The Harlem Wildcats also picked up a key split in District 2B action. Harlem bounced back from Friday night's loss to Plentywood to defeat Poplar, 25-23, 25-20, 26-24, in a hard-fought match.

According to head coach Kim Faulkinberry, her team rallied from a 24-20 deficit in game three to close out the game as Terra Fuzesy served five straight points to pick up the win.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore Megan Walls, who picked up 11 kills and three blocks. Rhawnee Gilham and Fuzesy each had eight assists apiece while Gilham added three assists. Alicia Shields added a game-high 21 in the win.
