High scoring dominates Hi-Line football

There was no shortage of scoring last weekend in Hi-Line football as Big Sandy, Chester, Box Elder and Rocky Boy all scored more than 40 points in the game. Big Sandy continues to be a force in the Northern C while Chester and Box Elder rebounded from season-opening losses.

Rocky Boy, Hays-Lodge Pole, Chinook and Blue Sky/KG are still in search of that elusive first win.

Big Timber 47 Chinook 6

The Chinook Sugarbeeters early season schedule has been rough going. The Beeters opened the season by being shut out by the defending Class B state champion Fort Benton Longhorns at home and on Friday night they fell in Big Timber 47-6.

Big Timber scored 47 unanswered points in the route. The Beeters finally got on the board in the fourth quarter when quarterback Adam Hayes threw a late TD pass that helped the Beeters avoid being shut out for the second straight week.

Big Timber was paced by senior quarterback Brad Gregorich. He threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another score and also kicked five extra points in the win.

Chinook (0-2) will return home on Friday night where they will open up District 2B play against the Glasgow Scotties.

Big Sandy 46 Sunburst 0.

The Big Sandy Pioneers opened their 2003 home schedule on Friday night with a 46-0 shutout romp over the Sunburst Refiners.

The Pioneers got another huge night from senior tailback Skylar Pearson as he racked up 121 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Pearson intercepted a pass as well. Adam Jesperson also scored for the Pioneers on runs of 1 and 47 yards and Mason Ophus caught a 22-yard TD pass from Gage Brumwell in the easy win.

Big Sandy scored 22 of its 46 points in the first quarter and the defensive shutout was led by Devin Genereux, who had a game-high 13 tackles.

The Pioneers (2-0) will remain home on Friday night as the host conference rival Blue Sky/KG at 7:30 p.m.

Chester 64 Hays-Lodge Pole 8

The Chester Coyotes rebounded from a season-opening loss at Belt by scoring 30 unanswered points in the first quarter en route to a 64-8 thrashing of the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds Friday night in Chester.

Patrick Walstad led the way for the Coyotes, scoring three times including a 14-yard pass from quarterback Kevin May, a 14-yard run and a 35-yard punt return for his third score of the game. Matthew and Patrick Wicks also scored a pair of touchdowns apiece.

The T-Birds' only score of the game came on a 1-yard touchdown run by tailback Lance Brockie in the second quarter.

Chester (2-0) will host the Sunburst Refiners on Friday night as part of homecoming festivities. The T-Birds (0-2) will host Northern C power Power-Dutton-Great Falls Central on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Power-Dutton-GFC 42 Blue Sky/KG 14

The Power-Dutton-GFC Titans scored 24 first-half points and never looked back as they cruised to their first Northern C victory of the season with a 42-14 win over the Blue Sky/KG Eagles.

Steven Horras scored three times in the including runs of 32 and 17 yards in the first quarter and added an 8-yard TD scamper later in the game en route to a game-high 189 yards rushing. Quarterback Orrie Gondiero also added a pair of touchdown passes as well.

The Eagles got on the board once in the third quarter on Kaare Engebretson 14-yard run and once in the final stanza on a 2-yard run from Jeremiah Moog. But the Eagle offense never quite got going for most of the contest.

Blue Sky/KG (1-1) will travel to Big Sandy on Friday night.

Box Elder 44 Brady 42

The Box Elder Bears opened their 2003 home schedule with a stunning 44-42 win over Brady on Saturday afternoon in Box Elder.

The Bears built a 44-26 lead after three quarters and then had to sustain a furious 16-point Brady comeback in the game's final 12 minutes en route to the win.

Tyler Henry led the way for the Bears, throwing for three touchdowns including a 21-yard strike to Dane Healy to open the game. Henry also caught a TD pass from quarterback Neal Rosette and ran for a 51-yard score in the third period. Brady's Matt Tranmer threw for three TD's and ran for a fourth score in the losing effort.

Both teams are now 1-1 in Northern Six-Man play. Box Elder will travel to Highwood on Saturday afternoon to face the ever-potent Mountaineers.

Lambert 88 Rocky Boy 44

A week after being being shut down offensively the Rocky Boy Stars lit up the scoreboard for 44 points on Saturday afternoon. The only problem was that the Stars defensive unit gave up twice that many points as the Lambert Lions thrashed the host Stars 88-44.

The Lions clung to a 23-20 lead at halftime but then scored 38 points in the third quarter to build an insurmountable lead over the Stars. The Lions also poured on 27 points in the game's final period to close the door on Rocky Boy.

Brett Irigon had a monstrous outing for the Lions, returning four kickoffs for touchdowns. He also rushed for three scores and caught and threw a TD pass as well. Jessie Colliflower also had a big day for the Stars. He threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as well as taking an interception back 25 yards for a team-high sixth touchdown of the day.

Rocky Boy (0-2) will next travel to Brockton on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Geraldine 48 Joplin-Inverness 18

The Geraldine Tigers raced out to a 16-0 first quarter lead at home Saturday afternoon as they downed the J-I Rams 48-18.

The Tigers scored 42 unanswered points including 26 in the second quarter before the Rams finally got on the scoreboard.

Zach Ramberg hit Craig Miller for a 32-yard touchdown strike late in the second quarter, and the Rams also scored twice in the fourth quarter, including a 25-yard strike from Ramberg to John Wolery. Jared Bixby scored the Rams final touchdown with an 11-yard scamper late in the final quarter.

The Tigers got big performances offensively from the tailback duo of Michael Clark and Greg Reid. The two seniors combined to rush for 270 yards and eight touchdowns in the win.

J-I (1-1) will take to the road again this weekend when they travel to Augusta on Saturday afternoon.
