MARGARET MCKINNIE obituary

CHINOOK - Margaret M. McKinnie, 86, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at a Havre hospital after complications from a fall.

A rosary was to be recited Sunday evening in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church with funeral Mass at 11 a.m. today in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. Burial was to follow in Kuper Memorial Cemetery.

Margaret was born in Havre on Dec. 8, 1916, to pioneer parents Edward and Anna (O'Connor) Bough. She attended St. Joe Country School north of Havre, Havre High School and the Ursiline Academy in Great Falls. Margaret received her B.A. degree from Northern Montana College in 1955.

Prior to her marriage to Ben McKinnie on May 29, 1941, in Havre, she began a long teaching career in country schools in Montana. After their wedding, Margaret and Ben lived briefly in Philadelphia, Pa., and Redwood City, Calif. After World War II, they moved back to Chinook and lived next to the Palm family in the McKinnie family home. In 1949, they moved to Lodge Pole, where Ben and Margaret taught school for six years. From there they moved to Redwood City, Calif., and taught school for 18 years. Upon retirement they returned to Chinook to live out their lives in the McKinnie family home.

Margaret was an avid genealogist and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, St. Gabriel's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters.

Survivors include son, Gil (Jill) McKinnie of Arlington, Wash .; daughters, Sister Karla McKinnie, CSC of Draper, Utah, Paula (Malcolm) Taylor of Redwood City, Calif .; sisters, Frances Schafer and Annamae Somers of Havre, and Evelyn Baird and Dorothy Majerus of Lewistown; sisters-in-law, Laura Palm of Chinook, Helen McKinnie of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; brother-in-law, Ed Majerus of Lewistown; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Anna Bough; husband, Ben McKinnie in 2001; and infant son, Ben Joseph McKinnie.

Memorials may be sent to St. Gabriel's Catholic Church or to the Chinook Senior Citizens Center.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
