McLain in 'fair condition'

A Havre soldier who was injured in Iraq last week received a special visit from Montana Senator Conrad Burns this morning, according to a press release from the senator's office.

Pfc. Adam McLain appeared to be doing well, and his parents told Burns he was able to sit up in bed for the first time since his injury, the press release said.

McLain is listed in fair condition, Bill Swisher, a spokesman for Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C., said this morning.

McLain, a 1999 graduate of Havre High School, has been treated at the hospital since earlier this week when he was airlifted from an army hospital in Germany.

McLain is assigned to the 143rd Military Police Detachment based in Bozeman. He was deployed to the Middle East in May and a month later was deployed to Iraq, where he served until he was injured last week.

McLain, whose parents are Bruce and Mary McLain of Havre, was injured in Baghdad Aug. 4 when he was struck by a military truck driven by another soldier in his unit. McLain suffered a broken leg and foot, a fractured skull and a number of lacerations and bruises, according to a press release from the Montana Army National Guard.

On Tuesday, the Army flew his parents to Washington D.C.
