HHS runners finish second at Cut Bank Invitational

The Havre High girls cross country team got a good look at one of the teams standing directly in its pursuit for the Class A state title.

The Bigfork Valkyries, the two-time defending state champions, grabbed four of the top 10 finishes including three runners in the top five to win the windy and chilly Cut Bank Invitational Friday.

Bigfork had Lauren Dalton, Brooke Andrus and Lesly Dalton finish second, third and fourth respectively to lead its squad to a solid 28 point team score. Kaci Calaway finished in sixth and Ashely McCallister came in 13th to round out the Bigfork scoring.

Havre finished a close second with a team score of 43, on the strength of four runners finishing in the top 10.

The Ponies got a fifth place finish from Mandi Nystrom with a time of 20:27. Havre grabbed places 8-11 to round out its team scoring. McKayla Patterson, Kelsey Malsam, Shannon Newth and Amy McLain finished in that succession for Havre. The foursome all finished within a less than minute of each other.

Emily Kostelecky, Kristine Keltgen and Kim Jestrab also finished in the top 25 for Havre.
