Chester, Blue Sky remain atop District 6C

With the conference season in full swing, the Chester Coyotes, Blue Sky Eagles and KG KouGars all picked up a pair of wins in District 6C high school volleyball action this weekend.

Chester picked up wins over Sunburst and Joplin-Inverness to remain atop the conference. On Thursday night in Chester, the Coyotes had a hard-fought 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 win over defending 6C champ Sunburst.

Keyla Wendland had a solid all-around game, picking up 10 kills and 17 assists while Mary Devries added 10 kills and seven blocks in the win.

Chester picked up a sweep of the weekend on Saturday with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-27, 25-22 win over J-I in Chester. Wendland once again led the Coyotes with eight kills, 11 assists and four aces. J-I got solid efforts from Hannah Pimley and Megan Herdina. Pimley finished with nine aces and eight blocks while Herdina contributed with eight assists and seven digs.

Blue Sky also completed the sweep of J-I and Sunburst on the weekend. The Eagles needed four games to knock off J-I, 25-17, 25-12, 19-25, 25-10, Friday night in Rudyard. Blue Sky got six kills, four aces and two blocks from Lindsay Anderson while Kile Patrick added six kills and nine digs in the win. The Rams got seven kills three aces and nine digs from Pimley and 11 digs, seven assists and three aces from Herdina in the loss.

On Saturday in Rudyard, Blue Sky cruised past Sunburst, 25-20, 25-9, 25-11, to complete the weekend sweep. Kaila Warren picked up a game-high 12 kills and three blocks while Holly Haas had 13 digs and four assists as the Eagles kept pace with Chester for the regular season conference title.

KG outlasted Rocky Boy, 29-27, 25-21, 26-24, 25-16, 15-7, in a five-game marathon in Gildford. Cady Arifin had 12 kills and 15 digs while Janine Jorgenson dished out 33 assists. Rocky Boy got a game-high 14 kills from Charmayne Four Colors and a whopping 12 aces from Marty Stiffarm in the loss.

On Saturday, KG cruised past Box Elder, 25-20, 25-9, 25-11, to complete the sweep. Whitney Hanson had five kills and five aces and Arifin chipped in with five kills, five digs and pair of blocks. Box Elder got five kills and four aces from Kodi Rainingbird in the losing effort.

In District 2B over the weekend ,Chinook remained undefeated in conference, but suffered its first loss of the season. On Friday night in Glasgow, the Beeters needed little time to rough up the host Scotties. Shaylan Haugen led a balanced effort with four kills while Monica Thackeray added 17 assists. The Beeters saw their undefeated record end on Saturday night with a tough 25-22, 25-11, 20-25, 25-21 non-conference loss to the Havre Blue Ponies.

Also in 2B, Harlem picked up a big 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, win over the Wolf Point Wolves. Megan Walls notched a game-high 12 kills and had 25 digs in the win. Harlem played solid defense as Carly Haluszka and Alecia Shields also had 25 digs apiece while Terra Fuzesy and Rhawnee Gilham each had 10 assists.
