More random thoughts on very random things

I need to extend an apology to the seven or so people who read this column. No, it's not something I've done, rather it's something I refuse to do.

I apologize for not spending an entire column writing about Kurt Warner's wife, Brenda, or Rush Limbaugh.

I can't. I won't. I would sooner slam my hand in a car door than waste the 27 inches of column space talking about either of those two imbeciles. But that doesn't mean I won't waste five or six inches to take a couple of cheap shots at them either.

The toughest thing when it comes to writing this column isn't forming an opinion on a subject. Believe me, I have an opinion on everything. No, the toughest thing is actually finding the right subject to write about.

Sure, there is always something happening in the world of sports, but whether it is worth spending the time to research and write about is what can be difficult.

Sometimes - not often, but sometimes - there isn't much going on in the world of sports during that week. That's when you really have to dig deep and try to find a column. In my case, those are the weeks you end up writing about living with your folks, making predictions on who would win The Bachelorette or what you would do if you won the Powerball.

And then there are weeks like this week when there are just too many things you want to or should write about. I guess if I was really motivated I could write a column every day, but my seven readers would be reduced to two (Mom and Dad).

So because there are so many things to write about, I will write a little about each. That's right, the random-thoughts column is back. Lock the doors, close the shutters and prepare for yourself random thoughts on random things ...

Let's just get Brenda Warner out of the way early. It seems that Mrs. Warner is so upset that her husband isn't getting to play in St. Louis that she's actually considering growing her hair to look like a woman.

Actually, for the second time in as many years, Brenda called into a sports talk radio show in St. Louis to defend her husband and talk about leaving the Rams.

"Probably, just from the point that we want to play, he wants to play, plain and simple," Brenda Warner told the radio show. "So, if he's not going to play here, then he wants to play somewhere. You just want to be wanted, like anybody, whether you're a D.J. or whatever you do."

Can somebody explain to me what it is that Brenda Warner actually does? Besides being shown between plays of every NFL game, even the ones the Rams aren't playing in.

Yeah, it was a cute story a few years ago when the Rams made their first Super Bowl. Kurt, the grocery clerk, making it big while Brenda not only shared in his success but obviously the same hair style.

"So you know what?" Brenda Warner said. "We're open for anything. We've always said we trust God in everything that happens for us. This is one of the things that we've got, again, to put our trust in Him and know that He'll take care of us."

Possibly more annoying than Brenda's shameless mugging for the camera is her willingness to invoke God's name into her everyday life. The Warner's love to remind people how faithful and pious they are. If she trusts in God so much, maybe its God's plan for Kurt to sit behind Marc Bulger for the season. As if God actually cares about how much playing time an NFL quarterback has, even Warner. God was smart enough to draft a different quarterback for His fantasy footall team.

The outcry over what Rush Limbaugh said on ESPN's NFL countdown is bordering on the ridiculous. What did people expect when Limbaugh was asked to be on the show. The whole idea for bringing the right-wing blowhard on was to stir up some controversy. It took just about four weeks to accomplish it.

''I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,'' Limbaugh said on the show. ''There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team.''

As an open-minded person the comment bothered me, as a football fan, I was outraged. How can he possibly criticize McNabb's accomplishments? You know how? By blaming the liberal conspiracy like he always does. Sorry Rush, the liberal media didn't vote McNabb to three Pro Bowls, his peers around the league did. With their incomes, a great many probably vote republican.

Limbaugh resigned before he was fired by ESPN. It was the right thing to do. If I was at ESPN, I would have fired him, too. Not for what he said, but because he obviously doesn't know a thing about football.

Does it bother anybody how skinny Bob Guiney, The Bachelor, has gotten. He has went from the cool, fat guy who made fun of himself and drank a lot of cocktails to the skinny, pretty boy, who drinks wine and health shakes. Bob, son't be "thatguy." The show is growing worse with every episode. This week, a girl who has known Bob for all of about 48 hours, professed to the camera, "I am ready to marry him, right now."

Please God, do not let me ever meet this woman.

It seems that there is an inordinate amount of Chicago Cub fans crawling out of the woodwork since the Cubs made it into the playoffs. I guess it will be just more fans in agony when they lose to the Braves. I was cheering for the Red Sox, but they have managed to implode as usual. They lost on a bunt, a bunt! If the Sox can't make it, I certainly don't want the Cubs to make it.

Omega Television Productions is back in Havre to televise another doubleheader. I wrote last year how important I thought their productions are. I still firmly believe it, but I would just like to get to view them every once in awhile. There is something with our cable, at least at our house, that doesn't allow you to see the games. It's slightly annoying to watch a fuzzy screen, but that's still better than ESPN's Playmakers.

I was witness to the new ground-bound University of Montana football team. I thought I had entered a bizarro world where everything was backwards with the Cubs in the playoffs, the Grizzlies running the option and the Bobcats winning ... wait did I say Bobcats winning? That's right they've lost two in a row. I guess we are back in the real world.
