Chester finishes 1-2 at Class C state volleyball tournament

The Chester Coyotes' bid for a Class C state volleyball championship came up short at the hands of the eventual state champions.

After opening the tournament with an upset of Philipsburg on Thursday morning, the Coyotes lost to eventual Class C champion Bridger in quarterfinal action on Thursday night. Chester was eliminated on Saturday in loser-out action by the Saco-Hinsdale Panthers.

The Coyotes started off the tournament the right way with a 20-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-23 win over Philipsburg - the Southern Divisional champ.

Senior Courtney Fraser had nine kills and 13 digs in the win for Chester. Keyla Wendland had eight kils and 18 assists.

The Coyotes ran into a buzzsaw on Thursday night as the Bridger Scouts continued their dominance of Class C volleyball with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 thrashing of Chester.

All-stater Kylee Zent had 20 kills and eight blocks to lead Bridger, while Mary DeVries had 10 blocks and 10 digs in the win.

The loss moved Chester into the loser-out action on Saturday morning, where the Coyotes were elminated 25-13, 25-21, 25-19 by Saco-Hinsdale. Fraser had nine kills and four aces in the loss for Chester.
