Ice Hawks dominate Great Falls in Havre

The Havre Ice Hawks were so tough at home last Friday night that their opponent didn't even want to play them the next day.

The Ice Hawks soundly defeated rival Great Falls, 5-1 in what was supposed to be the first of two games on the weekend. However, Great Falls refused to play on Saturday, wanting the game moved to a neutral site later in the year.

Still, Havre made the most of its only game. Andy Hanson scored the first of two goals two minutes into the game. Josh Strissel scored what proved to be the game winner early in the second period with an assist from Andy Meyers. Hanson added another goal in the second while Chazz Hurlburt and Corey Stremcha added insurance goals in the third period.

The Ice Hawks will return to action with three games on Dec. 29 and 30 at home against the Bozeman Valley Ice Gardens. Havre will play at 2 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 29 and at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 30.

The Ice Hawk Bantams picked up a pair of victories last weekend in Bozeman over the Valley Ice Garden Freeze.

Havre opened with a 6-4 win over the Freeze thanks to four goals from Todd Roe. Ryan Armstrong added another goal and Mason Sheppard had a goal and two assists to lead the Ice Hawks. David Zentmire stopped 23 shots on goal in the win.

On Saturday, Havre finished off the sweep with a 5-2 win. Tyler Boyce scored two goals and added an assist to pace Havre. Roe, Armstrong and Willy Schilling also added goals in the win. Zentmire had another solid game in goal, adding 25 saves.

The Ice Hawk PeeWee team finished with a 1-3 record at the Butte PeeWee tournament held on Dec. 5-7. The Ice Hawks opened with a 4-3 win over the Bozeman Stingers. Tyler Miller scored a pair of goals. Kyle Miller added a goal while Shane Kemmer scored the game winner on an assist from Beau Briese. Alex Sinclair had 20 saves in goal for Havre.

The following day, Havre suffered a 10-1 loss to the Spokane Warhorses. Tyler Miller scored Havre's only goal with an assist from Briese. Willie DeVries had 16 saves for Havre.

Later in the day, the Ice Hawks were downed 7-1 by the Bozeman Freeze. Dillon McLain scored Havre's lone goal with an assist from Kyle Miller. Sinclair picked up 21 saves in goal.

The Bozeman Stingers avenged the earlier loss to Havre on Sunday with a 8-2 win. McLain and Nick Wood scored Havre's two goals while DeVries stopped 19 stinger shots in the loss.
