Cable subscribers may experience temporary service outages over the next month as crews connect existing household cable lines to new fiber-optic main lines that were installed last summer.
After warmer temperatures returned to Havre late last week, crews have been working to get 3,400 Havre households switched over to the new cables, said Bonnie Hansen, Hi-Line general manager for Bresnan Communications. Crews began splicing the new cables about two months ago, but there are more outages right now because more crews are working, she said.
Cable customers in Havre fall into 14 areas, which each have about 400 homes. Crews are working on more than one area per day, Hansen said, but added that she doesn't know what percentage or what neighborhoods are without service at a given time.
Service should be restored by 5 p.m. every day, and service has been restored by noon on Saturdays for NFL playoff games, Hansen said.
Customers may experience more than one outage, she said.
The new fiber-optic cable is allowing Bresnan to offer customers new channels and digital packages that include high-speed Internet.
Hansen said the changes should be complete by Feb. 15.
