Hi-Line girls teams jockey for postition in standings; Big Sandy picks up key wins

With less just over a week remaining until the district tournaments, teams in the 9C, 10C and 2B continue fight for positions in the conference standings to help their seeding at the all-important tournaments.

In the 9C, the Blue Sky Eagles have cemented themselves in as the league champs, despite suffering their third loss of the year this weekend.

Blue Sky opened the weekend with a 74-44 drubbing of Box Elder in Box Elder. The Eagles rolled to a 34-18 first-half lead and never looked back. Kaila Warren led all scorers with 23 points including three three-pointers. Blue Sky also got 16 points from Lindsay Anderson in the win. Box Elder had three players in double figures led by Rebecca Eagleman's 18 points. Shaneen Raining Bird and Ashley Parisian added 11 and 10 points, respectively in the loss.

The Eagles extended-winning streak came to a halt on Saturday night, falling to their 10C rival the Chester Coyotes 60-53 in Rudyard. Chester grabbed a 33-28 after three quarters and fought off a furious Blue Sky rally to pick up the win.

Mary DeVries led Chester with 19 points. Keyla Wendland added 14 and Shawnee Norick chipped in with 12 for the Coyotes, as they improved to 7-1 in the 10C and 13-3 overall.

The Eagles got a game-high 29 points from Anderson and 17 from Warren in the loss. Blue Sky still remains atop the 9C with a 12-2 conference record and a 13-3 overall record.

The real race in the 9C standings is for second place as a trio of teams fight it out to be the No. 2 seed in the 9C tourney.

The KG KouGars remained in second despite splitting a pair of games this past week. The KouGars fell to Chester 65-48 on Thursday night, but rebounded for a 54-38 win over Turner on Saturday in Turner.

Chester outscored KG 28-16 in the first half and never looked back on Thursday as DeVries scored a game-high 20 points. Norick added 12 points and Courtney Fraser and Amanda Violett chipped in with 10 points each in the win. KG was led by Cady Arifin with 16 points in the loss.
