Ice Hawk High School squad still alive for state tourney

The Havre Ice Hawk High School squad is still scrapping for a precious spot in the state high school tournament. The Ice Hawks were in Missoula this past weekend and picked up a win while skating to a tie in another game.

On Saturday, Havre rolled to a 7-4 win as Andy Meyers and Corey Stremcha scored two goals each. The Ice Hawks also got a goal and two assists from Chazz Hurlburt, a goal and assist from Jordon Patterson and goal from Andy Hanson.

In the second game, the Ice Hawks skated to a 4-4 tie as Scott Ladenburg scored the game-tying goal with three minutes remaining in the third period on an assist from Hurlburt. Havre couldn't find the goal at the end to complete the rally.

Hanson opened the Havre scoring, picking up a goal on an assist from Meyers. Tyson Anderson and Ben Erickson each added goals on assists from Michael Erickson.

The Ice Hawks will play their final home games of the season this weekend against Missoula with games on Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. Saturday night's game will be "senior night" as the Ice Hawks honor their eight leaving seniors, who include: Hurlburt, Meyers, Patterson, Stremcha, Michael Anderson, Amanda Boyce, Daine Solomon and Kaare Engebretson.

Three of the Ice Hawk high school players - Andy Meyers, Chazz Hurlburt and Tyson Anderson - have been invited to Minnesota to a special tryout camp for a Junior "A" scouting camp. The camp is by invitation only and will run from April 1-3 in Bloomington, Minn.

The Ice Hawks Pee Wee team finished with a 2-2 record in the past two weeks. On Jan. 24, Havre suffered a 3-2 loss to the Helena Bighorns in Helena.

Shane Kemmer and Jesse Majeres scored Havre's only goals with C.J. Evans, Dillon McLain and Kyle Miller picking up assists. Alex Sinclair picked up 18 saves in goal for the Ice Hawks.

A day later, Havre fell again to Helena by the score of 3-2. Beau Briese scored Havre's opening goal on an assist from Kemmer, who also scored the Ice Hawks' other goal on an assist from Tyler Miller. Ice Hawk goalie Cameron Schilling stopped 21 shots on goal.

Last weekend, Havre scored a pair of easy wins over the Missoula Bruins at the Ice Dome.

On Saturday, the Ice Hawks cruised to a 9-0 win as Kyle Miller and Kemmer scored two goals each. Tyler Miller scored a goal and two assists, while Jesse Majeres, Dillon McLain and Beau Briese scored a goal and an assist each. Zachary Wavrick added a goal while Adam Briese and C.J. Evans chipped in with assists.

A day later, Havre continued to have no trouble scoring, picking up a 9-2 win. Nick Woods led the Havre attack with a hat trick. Majeres scored two goals and picked up two assists, while Kyle Miller also scored two goals and dished out an assist. Tyler Miller and Beau Briese each scored goals. Kemmer, McLain, Evans and Beau Briese also had assists.
