WHITEFISH - Edward Max Peter, 81, a longtime Whitefish resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at a Columbia Falls veterans home of natural causes.
A graveside funeral service with military honors was scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Glacier Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kalispell.
Edward was born on Oct. 3, 1922, in Mercer, Wis., to August and Monica Peter. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II and served with the 94th Signal Corps. He was discharged in 1945.
He married Mabelle Oestreich, and she died in 1977. He married Alice Bell in 1982.
From 1945 to 1955, he worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and then worked for the City of Mercer until 1972. He then worked for the U.S. Forest Service at the Spotted Bear Ranger District from 1972 to 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Alice of Turner; daughters, Charlotte (Dave) Taylor of Columbia Falls, Barbara (Dave) Ogren of Kalispell, and Margie (Mike) Rademaker in Brookings, Ore.; sons, Edward (Bonnie) Peter Jr. of Kalispell and Glen (Pearl) Peter of Lakeside; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret (Art) Peck of Mercer, Wis.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish.
