Busy day for Havre spring sports

It will be a busy day for Havre spring sports' teams with local action highlighting the schedule.

The Havre High track team will be hosting Great Falls High in dual track meet action at 3 p.m. at the Havre Middle School track.

The Ponies are coming off solid showings at boys and girls track meets last weekend.

The Havre girls got solid performances from Alicia Overcast, Kelsey Smith, and Lena Suek in Saturday's Optimist Invitational in Great Falls.

Those three along with Mandi Nystrom, Rylee O'Connell, Kelsey Malsam, Carmen Neuens, Darci Briere and Casea Pollington should score points today for Havre.

The Pony girls defeated CMR last Tuesday in its only other dual meet this season.

The Havre boys weren't quite as impressive at a very tough Dahlberg Invitational in Butte this past weekend. Still the Ponies will bring a formidable squad to today's meet led by junior Scott Robinson, who will compete in five events for the Ponies.

Senior Kasey Barsotti should win both distance races, while Sam Simpson, Tom Knudson, Tyson Parman, Patch Wirtzberger and Eric Vosen should do well in their individual events.

The Havre fast pitch softball club team will also be in action today against Glasgow at 5 p.m. at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Softball Field.

Havre is coming off a tough weekend at the Belgrade Invitational, where it finished 0-4.

But like Havre, Glasgow is a relatively new fast pitch program and tonight's game should be very competitive. Havre will start Kristin Evanson on the mound once again. Evanson has pitched all but one of Havre's games this season.

Offensively, Laura Zentmire, Brittany Callahan and Kim Collins will be counted on to drive in some runs. Shortstop Kelsey Evans anchors a Havre defense that has been somewhat inconsistent at times this season.

The Havre High tennis team will also be in action today, albeit on the road in Great Falls.

The Pony netters will face a very tough CMR squad that features an 11-0 dual record from its boys. The Havre boys are also undefeated in dual action, but did have losses in singles and doubles to CMR competitors at last weekend's Helena Invitational.

There will be in a switch in the boys lineup, with Daine Solomon moving to the No. 1 spot, replacing Kyle Baltrusch, who Solomon defeated last week in a challenge match. Baltrusch will play No. 2, while Lucas Hamilton will man the No. 3 spot.

The boys doubles lineup will go with Gary Wagner and Marc Mariani at the No. 1; Coda Tchida and Billy Wagner at the No. 2 and John Christian and Chase Castloo at the No. 3.

For the Havre girls, the lineup remains pretty much the same, with Amy McLain, fresh off a second-place finish in Helena, playing No. 1. Megan Rice and Karissa Olson round out the Havre lineup.

The doubles will feature the No. 1 team of Steph Flatau and Keelie Solomon, along with Kari Gorder and Katy Dow at No. 2 and Jocelyn Chagnon and Molly Proctor at No. 3.
